Dispatching War Rocket Ajax

Flash! Ahhhhh! He’s a miracle!”. Alright, it’s been quite a while since you last heard from me, but we can let bygones be bygones, right? I was distracted by something shiny. In exchange for your forgiveness I’ll give you one of my all time favo albums, and I promise I’ll do my best to never abandon you again…

This album (Monsieur Sexe) was initially intended as a limited  (1000 copies) release on valentines day, 2005. Now, thanks to the wonder of file sharing, it isn’t quite as limited. It would have been a real shame if this album didn’t find its way to your ears.

It features a few French classics (Serge Gainsbourg, anyone?), and an album cover that warns listeners that it “contains sexually oriented adult material”, so you can expect it to be dripping with culture and eroticism… Like seriously sensual and atmospheric…

Clean up when you’re done.

Newly Discoveredness

Tuesday, July 7, 2009

Yo yo yo. I heard this dude on the radio in the car the other day (which is lucky coz I don’t have a radio anywhere else and I don’t like driving). It has quickly become my favourite album for the week, racking up playcounts like your mum racks up… I dunno, dry cleaning bills? Go easy…

If I had to describe this guy’s sound, I’d say it’s Flying Lotus (who btw is related to John “Fuck-me-this-guy-is-a-genius” Coltrane) meets some hippie indie alternative shit (which I don’t mind). On last.fm it has been appropriately dubbed folktronica. Definitely throw it on next time you visit your friend who “just isn’t that into electronic music” :) Perhaps best of all he uses sounds he finds and records out in the world – au naturale, I like it.

So here’s my favo track if you are tight-fisted with your bandwidth (…err, not a euphemism for wanking to internet porn):

Bibio – Fire Ant

And here is the full sonic-smorgasbord:

Bibio – Ambivalence Avenue

Doing The Joy

Tuesday, July 7, 2009

Alright, so I had the idea of sitting up all night watching peep show episodes on youtube waiting for these two amazing French dudes to email me their new single. This idea became something I did, and I’m fucking glad that I did it. Initially the grungy guitar intro confused my little brain – where were the spaceage bleeps and bloops? Then some weird theramin sound came in and settled me back down… oh yeah and there was some signature vocoding shit in there too.

Here it is:

Air – Do The Joy

Keep an ear out for their new album, “Love 2”, which is scheduled for release in October. Funny, “Love 2” was the name of a sex and bong store near my old place in St. Kilda.

Feadz Fixsz

The latest Ed Banger release is here:

Feadz – People Money Numbers Business

To be perfectly honest, I find it a little boring. Hopefully it grows on me – if not, hopefully there are some nice remixes to come out soon :-)

Apparantly Air have a new single coming out on the 6th called “Do The Joy”. I’m really looking foooooorwarrrddd to it, so I’m going to post my favourite album of theirs in celebration/anticipation. Have some pills and listen to this on a delapidated couch, in a freezing cold room with someone you love:

Air – Talkie Walkie

If however you aren’t fortunate enough to be in Paris, hopefully you will be in Melbourne on the 11th:

If you can’t make it to either of these… download some tracks from their myspaces and have your own event! Woooo!

Mixed Bag

Tuesday, June 30, 2009

Not much to talk about today really… Feadz new EP is coming out tomorrow – I could put up some tracks from that but I’ll try find the full thing for tomorrow instead. Busy P says it’s the bomb (this has been paraphrased, however).

So, instead of writing some wanky shit like usual I’m going to drop a mixed bag of trax on your lap. Hopefully you like some of them :-)

Roman Flügel – Geht’s Noch?

Le Tigre – Deceptacon (Chicks on Speed Remix)

Daft Punk – Around the World (Killdahype Remix)

Mr. Oizo – Stunts (Flying Lotus Remix)

Kleerup – Until We Bleed (Feat. Lykke Li)

Q-Tip – Gettin Up (Hot Pink Delorean Remix)

Busy P – Colette C’est Chouette

Project Jenny, Project Jan – Chinatown Bus

Soledad Brothers – Teenage Heart Attack (Live)

Digitalism – Pogo (The Horrors Remix)

Les Rythmes Digitales – Sometimes

Or eat them all, you greedy fuck:

All Above Trax

What a weekend. I haven’t slept since Thursday. First was the Vaudeville Smash gig (followed by some  dancing in the street with strangers, garnished with a pinch of Pony). Saturday gave birth to memories of a ZOMBIE PARTY, complete  with fake-blood doused drugged up dudes dancing and singing “A B C D E F G… next time won’t you sing with me?”. Yeah I know, it’s awesome – I’m totally ready for a zombie invasion now.

The Vaudeville Smash were nothing short of amazing; I couldn’t help but  find myself dancing on chairs (and perform other dangerous balancing acts), hugging the other regulars and yelling the lyrics with one another in a drunken sing along. They are playing next at the Espy on the 11th (of June), which is something I think you should go to… do it for meee?

But anyway, that’s like two weeks away! I’m sure in between now and then you and I will be doing other dancey fun stuff, so here are some happy little tracks to listen to while you straighten your hair:

Isabelle – Amstramgram

Breakbot – Summerparty

Little Boots – New In Town

Ahh fuck it, just so you have the complete EP (it’s also a really nice track):

Breakbot – Happy Rabbit

Hmmm, bed time? Nahhhhh…

Michael Jackson is Dead

This gives a new context to Mr Oizo‘s Transexual EP:

Mr Oizo – Transexual EP

I love Mr Oizo. I also love MJ =[ very sad day indeed – hopefully he’s just pretending to be a zombie again (like in thriller), that trickster…

The Vaudeville Smash

Thursday, June 25, 2009

The Vaudeville Smash (a funkmesenseless offshoot of the infamous cult-legends Pornland) are playing at Bar Open tomorrow night (Friday the 26th of June), starting at 11:15 pm. You know these guys must be good when their myspace about section says:

They’re good looking
They’re humble
They recognise a good hook when a good hook comes a knocking
Their live show is gonna fuck you up

I totally concur, but you don’t have to take my word (or theirs) for it; the gig is free, and this track is off the fucking suspending-device:

The Vaudeville Smash – Look At Me

See you there, tupperware!
